Parting with a Map Is Such Sweet Sorrow in Prague

The capital city of the Czech Republic, Prague, has always been known for its people's passion in life, its historic attractions and its enchanting spell weaved into the hearts of its visitors.  Such is its beauty and grace that Prague is one of the most visited cities in Europe.

But first-time and directionally-challenged tourists are well advised to bring a map of Prague with them.  Although you are giving yourself away as tourists, it is infinitely better than becoming a lost tourist in the streets of the city.  After all, you will want to get back to your comfortable Prague accommodations with little time and effort after a hard day of touring Prague's many charming districts.

And since we are on the subject of accommodations, you should book your Apartments in Prague online in advance.  Your choices range from the budget to the luxurious with various amenities from fully-equipped kitchen to a Jacuzzi bath.  At the very least, you will not be wandering around the city with map in hand belatedly looking for the right holiday apartment.

So, why will you need a map in Prague?  Well, let's just say that it is such sweet sorrow parting with said map in the city.  You will discover the hidden delights of the city without a map.  Just follow where your feet lead you and then discover the enchanting nooks and crannies that make Prague the unique city that it is in more ways than one.  You will also discover that without a map, it is easy to literally get lost in the city's ten districts.  You are probably thinking that it's just ten districts and that number should be easy enough to navigate with your own sense of direction.

Well, prepared to be surprised.  There are many incompatible district systems used in Prague that adds to the confusion of even the long-time expatriates and residents of the city.  The systems may be from different time periods, with different purposes and with different meanings but with the same names.  For example, Praha 2 is divided into quarters since the old system is too crude to be practical but it can get confusing when you realize that a quarter may belong to two or more districts.

So, if we are asked whether to bring a map or not to bring a map, we always say bring a Prague map when in Prague especially when you have yet to get your bearings of the city.  You will then be able to identify the ten districts as used in the so-called old system. Despite the confusion of old and new systems clashing, however, the former divides the city into districts known simply by their numbers, thus, Praha 1 to 10.

Just to get you acquainted with the districts, Praha 1 has the most number of attractions from the Castle, Lesser Town, Old Town, New Town and Jewsih Town.  Praha 2 is divided into the New Town, Vysehrad and Vinohrady while Praha 3 is home to poets, artists, musicians, university students and expatriates.
