Study in Prague

Higher Education Is Not a Problem in Prague

If you're planning a trip to the Czech Republic, make sure to spend some time in Prague. Prague, both the capital and largest city in the entire country, means "Mother of Cities." For over a thousand years, it's functioned as the economic, political, and cultural heart of the Czech state. Prague was also once the capital of the Holy Roman Empire, and is today the sixth most popular tourist destination throughout Europe! In fact, over four million people throughout the world annually visit Prague.

You will find so many tourist attractions in Prague, including the Old Town, Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, and the National Museum. The city also features various quality universities that you won't want to miss while visiting the city or if you want to study in Prague

Charles University (Prague) is the Czech Republic's largest and oldest university. The university was founded in the year 1347, and is actually one of the oldest universities throughout Europe! It has also ranked as one of the top universities in the Central and Eastern region of Europe. The university was originally modeled after the University of Paris. It later functioned as a Protestant academy, as the Charles-Ferdinand University, and as Czech and German universities. After several years of turmoil, the university started to stabilize during the late 1980s. Today, the Charles University (Prague) contains roughly 50,000 students.

The Czech Technical University (Prague) (CTU) is another prestigious institution of higher learning located in the city. It's widely considered as the best university in technology in the Czech Republic, and was one of Central Europe's first institutes of technology. Emperor Joseph I founded the school in 1707. The school includes over 23,000 students (2008), and nearly 4,000 staff members (2008).

Another noteworthy school of higher learning in Prague is the Academy of Fine Arts (Prague). Founded in 1799, it's the oldest art college located in the Czech Republic. The founding of the college was part of the formation of several organizations that promoted both art and education. It initially provided instruction in drawing, though later was expanded to include other programs, such as painting, sculpture, and architecture. The Academy of Fine Arts underwent major restructuring in 1990. Then in 1991, programs for computer animation and film were added to the school's curriculum. Today, the university offers instruction in both historic and contemporary art. It also includes international programs, with some classes being taught in English. Finally, the school also offers classes such as painting and drawing, which the general public can take. The goal of the classes is to increase the community's art appreciation.
